4M.1.PRODUCT: FAIR Reporting Assessment Tool¶
This is an update to 3M.2.DEMO: FAIRness Assessment and is a suite of tools for performing a FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) assessment of digital objects. This directly relates to KC1 (FAIR guidelines and metrics).
What they achieved¶
FAIRshake is a web-based software toolkit that enables the assessment of compliance of biomedical digital research objects with the FAIR guiding principles. FAIRness assessments of different types of digital objects can be visually communicated via the FAIR insignia. The teams also built a Chrome extension and Bookmarklet which provide easy access to display and perform FAIR assessments on any relevant web-site.
Why is this valuable?¶
Making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable is one of the core goals of the Data Commons, and these tools give us a way to access how close we are to those ideals. These software toolkits allow data owners to assess how well their data aligns with FAIR principles, and gives them scores on several parameters. This allows data stewards to identify weaknesses in their FAIRness score and correct them.
