5M.6.PRODUCT: Resolver Service

Sodium

Description

A resolver service to resolve:

1. KC2-minted GUIDs to their digital-object-level metadata
and secondarily to object contents in multi-cloud provider
buckets, using standard public resolution services
     (DOI.org & N2T.net) plus KC2 landing service.

2. Compact identifier (prefix:accession format GUIDs) using
standard public resolution services (N2T.net and
     Identifiers.org).

What they achieved

This product outlines the tools to be used in building the resolver service. They plan to use the open public standard Cloud native Resolver Web Service for identifiers.org and register the standard with SmartAPI another identifiers.org product. This product gives examples of GUIDs and compact identifiers that resolve as expected when using Identifiers.org.

Why is this valuable?

Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) are necessary to insure that data is FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) in the Data Commons infrastructure. To make GUIDs useful across the Commons, it needs to be possible to use standard public services and APIs to resolve them. This will allow users access to the metadata and object contents located on the cloud.
