5M.6.PRODUCT Object GUID Services

Sodium

Description

Provide services to mint, resolve and register GUIDs. Data Providers will mint and resolve new GUIDs with the Object Registration Services. Data Providers will register any required but currently unregistered compact identifier namespaces using the Namespace Service

What they achieved

Delivered document (KC2) introducing a common model for globally unique identifier (GUID) registration, resolution and landing services. This document contains an example of resolving a GUID which works well. The 2nd deliverable was links to APIs for the Object Resolution Service (ORS) registers and resolves GUIDs and Core Metadata for DCPPC digital object and the registration of that API in the smart-API registry. No examples of using this API were given or any links to a running service using this API.

Why is this valuable?

Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) are necessary to insure that data is FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) in the Data Commons infrastructure. The GUID services are those needed to create the IDs, resolve those IDs and use those IDs to reach to the objects (landing services).
